Some services are critical to Windows XP’s operations, so make sure you understand what the service is before you disable it.To reduce the number of services that start on bootup, you can access two different areas of Windows XP.

In the Folder Options window, their are three settings: Hidden files and folders, Hide extensions for known file types, and Hide protected operating system files. Notice that in the same folder shown above, you can now see the AppData folder (useful if you need to access your %temp% folder, or preferences stored by many applications), as well as the ntuser.dat files.
